Doctors should stand up the the assisted suicide lobby, says The Daily Telegraph.
In an editorial The Daily Telegraph has commented on attempts being made by a minority of doctors in the BMA to drive the doctors’ professional body away from its position of opposing assisted suicide to a stance of neutrality. The agitation that is taking place comes just months after Parliament at Westminster overwhemingly rejected proposals to change the law, which itself followed clear rejection of such legislation by the Scottish Parliament. We endorse The Telegraph’s view that the BMA should stand firm and maintain is opposition to such practices, which strike at the root of the ‘first, do no harm’ principle underlying all clinical practice.
