If 'assisted dying' is a matter for society and not for the medical profession, it is society, through the courts, that must have the responsibility for it

In a week that has seen the British Medical Journal ranting obsessively about doctor-assisted suicide, a senior palliative medicine doctor points to the inconsistency of saying that the BMA should stand back from the debate about legalisation, yet insisting that such acts should be part of medical practice.
